Bank categorization + transaction types — Zoho Books capture (2026-06-23)
Section titled “Bank categorization + transaction types — Zoho Books capture (2026-06-23)”Captured live from the Zoho Books CA demo banking module (read-only; no records created on any account, per the user’s constraint). Drove Caesar’s Batch 2 work: per-category categorize fields, multi-select bulk categorize, Expense itemize, and live FX on foreign-currency transactions.
Add Transaction / “Categorize as” type taxonomy
Section titled “Add Transaction / “Categorize as” type taxonomy”The bank “Add Transaction” menu and the uncategorized-line “Categorize as” dropdown share the same set, split by money direction. Captured verbatim from the demo:
Money Out (9): Expense · Vendor Advance · Vendor Payment · Transfer To Another Account · Sales Return · Card Payment · Owner Drawings · Credit Note Refund · Payment Refund
Money In (11): Customer Advance · Customer Payment · Sales Without Invoices · Transfer From Another Account · Interest Income · Other Income · Expense Refund · Deposit From Other Accounts · Owner’s Contribution · Vendor Credit Refund · Vendor Payment Refund
Caesar’s TXN_FULL already matched this list 1:1 (confirmed, no change needed).
Per-category fields
Section titled “Per-category fields”Each category renders its own field set (the user’s key ask: “each value has their fields based on the category value selected”). Captured the banking Expense form field-by-field:
Expense Account · Vendor · Date · Amount · Exchange Rate · Tax · Reference# · Description · Customer · Reporting Tags.
Note Exchange Rate is present in the live form — it appears when the transaction currency differs from the base currency. Caesar mirrors this with a per-amount currency selector + an editable live rate (txnCurChange/txnFxCompute).
The remaining categories follow the same shape with a distinguishing association field (Vendor / Customer / To-Account / From-Account / income or expense account / a document to apply against) plus the common Date · Amount · Reference# · Description. Caesar’s txnFieldList() already encodes these field sets per type; the categorize panel now renders txnFieldList(selectedCategory) so the fields swap live when the dropdown changes.
Itemize
Section titled “Itemize”Zoho’s Expense (both the bank Add-Transaction Expense and the standalone Purchases ▸ Expenses form) supports Itemize — splitting one expense into multiple account lines (Account · Notes · Amount · Tax). Caesar adds an “+ Itemize” toggle on both surfaces (expItemizeToggle for the bank modal, sxItemizeToggle for the standalone form).
Bulk categorize
Section titled “Bulk categorize”The demo shows a “Multi-Select & Match” affordance on the account register. Caesar implements multi-select on uncategorized lines (per-row checkboxes + select-all) with a bulk bar offering Categorize selected (one category applied to all) and Exclude (feedSelToggle/feedBulkCategorize/saveFeedBulk/feedBulkExclude).
FX on transactions
Section titled “FX on transactions”When a transaction’s currency is changed away from the base (NGN), Caesar reveals an editable Exchange Rate field prefilled from FX_TO_NGN, a “live · 1 USD = ₦1,600 · editable” hint, and a live “Equivalent in base currency · ₦X” readout. The account balance is consolidated in NGN regardless of the entered currency.
